Inaugural Honor Band Concert

Last night, MII’s North Raleigh Honor Band concluded our inaugural half season with a wonderful concert at Durant Road Middle School.  Our student musicians performed the following repertoire under the direction of Conductor Jim Burk:

Celtic Air and Dance (Arr. Michael Sweeney)

Autumn Mist (Larry Clark)

Year of the Dragon (Michael Sweeney)

Forever (Brian Balmages)

Zeal (Rob Grice)

Our talented high school mentors were recognized for their contributions to the success of the honor band and, then, played alongside their middle school students. Thank you again, Kyrese Washington (Flute), Carissa Petzold (Clarinet), Michael Butler (Sax), Ross Petersen (Sax), Noah Green (Trumpet), Jeremy Petersen (Low Brass and Sound Recording), Ethan Styll (Percussion), and Mallory Mormann (Percussion)!

Our President and Founder, Hannah Scanlon, offered special thanks to numerous individuals who gave their time to help make our season a success, including:

  • Her parents, John & Heather, for their partnership in bringing her music service ideas to reality
  • Mr. Tom Jenner (Millbrook High School Band Director) for his advice and counsel throughout the season and for hosting our rehearsals in his band room each week
  • Mr. Steven Kuni (Durant Road Middle School Band Director) for graciously hosting our concert last evening
  • Mr. Jim Burk (North Raleigh Christian Academy Band Director) for conducting the honor band and providing great guidance for the program this season and next.

Mr. Burk also thanked the school band directors who work with our musicians day-in and day-out for their contributions to musical education, and recognized those in attendance.

It is not too early to begin thinking about next season for the North Raleigh Honor Band!  Sign up here for our mailing list and we will notify you when registration opens in the fall.

Have a wonderful summer, and keep practicing!  Check back on our website for recordings of our inaugural concert: coming soon.
